NBHD MRKT is a proposed multi-use space that not only aims to provide it’s surrounding community with it’s basic needs, but also bring it’s members closer together. At NBHD MRKT, you can sit down for a bite to eat, grab your daily groceries, and hang with those friends you’ve been meaning to catch up with.
Derived from my curiosity surrounding possible functions of communal spaces, this marketplace concept revolves around three main touchpoints I defined as the core tenets: EAT, SHOP, GATHER. After determining the intended function of the space, I developed a design style that feels hip with a human touch.

core tenet: EAT
The wordmark and icon for the EAT aspect of NBHD MRKT represents a table in the center surrounded by two seats. This reflects not only the culinary aspect of the marketplace but also suggests a shared meal as a method of gathering and bonding.
core tenet: SHOP
The SHOP aspect of the marketplace is reflected in an icon that resembles a box before it has been folded up for packing. This suggests a handmade feeling that speaks to the type of locally made goods that would be sold in the NBHD MRKT shop.
core tenet: GATHER
The wordmark for NBHD MRKT’s gathering spaces and events reflects two seperate shapes being brought together by one common line. This speaks to the market’s goal of providing the space and activities for people to come together and get to know their local community.
brand message development
As an excercise in brand development and execution, this project began with the development of NBHD MRKT’s personality which is a reflection of not only the market itself, but the people for whom it is intended.

Early research included image selections that inpired NBHD MRKT’s look. Main takeaways included color selections, texture concepts, and event typographic layouts and hierarchy ideas.
